Top Beauty Trends of 2018

As the year comes to an end with the holidays among us, the season of Winter quickly becomes the season of giving! With multiple opportunities to exchange presents and celebrate the memories of the year, it is a great chance to reflect on the top beauty trends of 2018!

There have been some been some crazy trends over the past 12 months, from massive hairstyles to highlighting pops of colour in makeup looks, but there have been several overarching themes in the past couple months that have prevailed in the beauty industry. Keep reading to recap on the top trends of this year!

Eyelash Extensions

When it comes to adding length to eyelashes, mascara and fake lash add-ons are a staple in every daily makeup routine but in the past year, a multitude of eyelash extension locations have taken over this industry. Eyelash extensions allow for minimal efforts in a makeup routine and a look that stays permanent for a longer period of time.

Certain looks have included coloured eyelash extensions which have transformed the makeup look and taken it to the next level. With options for 3D extensions or mink lashes, the industry is continuing to grow and cater towards this eyelash obsessive society.

Aloe Vera

With many skincare products and overall cleansing products integrating aloe vera, it has become a popular option for those looking for a refreshing feeling. Aloe vera has many benefits including reduction of itchiness and inflammation. It’s also used to help reduce acne and assist with acne prone skin which is why it has become such a favourite.

This year featured several products from natural and organic brands such as the Body Shop and Kiehl’s. Whether it be face masks, soothing gels, or treatment mists, companies have found a way to add aloe vera into the staple organic skincare lines of hemp, almonds, and fruit-based products.

Wax Nose Jobs

This trend is one of the most bizarre ones to appear in 2018. It originates from makeup lovers in Asia, primarily China, where wax is used for various aspects of their daily makeup routine. Wax allows for flexibility in your look because it can be used to change the shape of anything on your nose.

The wax is rolled into a ball or a skinny strip and placed onto the area of your face that you are looking to change. Once you have determined that, it can be pressed into your skin to form the shape you want. The edges of the wax can be smoothed out with Vaseline based products or simply using a bit of water. As soon as it dries, you can continue on with your makeup routine, covering the area with your foundation and coverage as if it is part of your face. This trend creates a sense of at-home nose jobs, and once done correctly, can be applied to any facial feature you want to change.

“Less is More!”: Neutral Makeup/Glowing Skin

In previous years, caking makeup or having the absolute most coverage was key to a perfect makeup look but as 2018 brought a year of being health-conscious and showcasing healthy skin, the look of minimal makeup alongside glowing skin was prominent. Loose powders were popular to finish off a makeup routine without it looking too heavy. Products such as highlighters and glow products provide a genuine healthy skin look, which is why they have been prominent this year.

Genuine Glow: Skincare

Although products can produce a glowy and dewy look for your skin, nothing is better than your actual skin naturally glowing. With skincare products constantly getting attention in the media, there has become a bigger need for investing in this sector of the beauty industry.

Skincare ranges from face masks and day oils to toners and moisturizers, an abundance of step-by-step products that brings your skin from dry and dull to fresh and ready-to-go.

Eyebrow Mania: Fishtail, Halo, Pencil

This last trend went viral on various social media platforms this year, featuring crazy eyebrow looks, namely the fishtail, halo, and pencil looks. Makeup is an artform and many in the community are makeup artists for a living, thus paving new ideas and looks every now and then.

The fishtail eyebrow look features a cut at the end of the eyebrow, making it split and creating a fishtail. A halo eyebrow connects the eyebrows in a loop, forming a halo and although pencil eyebrows sound common, this references eyebrows looking like pencil cartoons. These new looks are odd but they showcase how talented the makeup artist community is.

With 2018 coming to a close, each of these trends are still in effect – use this opportunity to try out these new viral styles and change them up for the upcoming new year! Happy holidays and have a wonderful new year! [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
