5 Must-Haves to Keep in Your Bag this Summer!

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]After many, many months of bracing the cold, warmer weather is finally upon us. Time to ditch the thick coat and winter boots and trade them in for light, summer attire and sandals! Like any change, the transition period from one season to another can be difficult. Not only do you have to stow away the cold weather necessities, but you also have to ensure you have what you need for the hot months ahead. It’s important to prepare ahead of time to avoid rushing around last minute.

With that being said, what exactly do you need this summer? Here are a few must-haves to have in your tote this summer!

Sunscreen

This should go without saying, however, a majority of people still neglect the use of sunscreen. Sunscreen protects the skin from the strong rays the sun gives off. Its usage on the external layer of our dermis can help prevent sun-related skin ailments, sunburns, and irritation caused by the suns powerful rays.

The SPF you utilize should depend on how often you plan on being outside. For example, if you work a job where you are outdoors for the majority of the day or spend a lot of your summer on the beach, opt for a sunscreen with a higher SPF rating. If you don’t spend much time in the sun, you can get away with a lower SPF and re-apply as needed. Applying sunscreen at least 30 minutes prior to going outdoors can help protect your skin.

Lip Balm with SPF

Keeping the skin protected with SPF via sunscreen is crucial, but we also have to consider parts of our body that are frequently exposed to the sun. Our faces are typically the most exposed part of the body, ergo we need to take extra precaution in protecting every part of it. The powerful rays from the sun can cause irritation, blistering, peeling, cracking, and damage to the lips. With that being said, many lip balms contain SPF. These lip balms will keep your lips moist and healthy whilst simultaneously protecting them from the sun. Next time you go pick up a lip balm, opt for one with SPF and carry it around in your bag so your lips can be protected at all times.

Deodorant

While most of us look forward to all the wonders the hot weather brings, there are a few downfalls. Sweat is a huge downside of hot weather, but luckily it isn’t harmful. Sweat can give off an unpleasant scent and with more hot weather comes more sweat. We can get away with one application of deodorant in those colder months, but sometimes, more is needed as the temperature increases.

Keeping deodorant on you can help you stay fresh all day long and can help you avoid the stench that comes with a high-amount of sweat.

Wet wipes

It’s improbable to shower every time we feel hot and sweaty. As much as we would like to when that feeling arises, it’s a lot to ask of one person. Wet wipes can help you stay fresh throughout the day, similar to deodorant. Wet wipes serve a dual purpose in the hotter months.

Wet wipes can help you feel cool. If the blast from the sun is too much, rubbing a wet wipe on your face and/or body can help you cool down temporarily. They can also keep you fresh if you are running from place to place and don’t have time for a full freshen up session!

Moisturizer

As mentioned previously, the sun can be your skins best friend and worst enemy at the same time. A lot of people experience dry, irritated, or damaged skin in the summer simply due to the exposure to the sun. Another contributor to dry skin, specifically, is sunscreen. Although sunscreen is necessary and has a plethora of benefits, it can dry out the skin, especially those with a higher SPF level.

Applying a moisturizer throughout the day can help combat dry skin. A lot of moisturizers on the market also come with a degree of SPF in them as well. If you don’t feel like applying sunscreen to your face frequently or you find it causes dryness, opt for a moisturizer that has SPF.

Bonus items

Aside from the protects that aim to protect your skin, there are other items you should store in your tote to keep your body comfortable and healthy this summer.

  • H2O – staying hydrated is important, not just in the summer, but all year-round. Carrying a water bottle with you can help you stay hydrated throughout the day (bonus points if you utilize a reusable water bottle!).
  • Sunglasses – although we avoid staring directly at the sun, our eyes still have a high level of contact with it. Sunglasses can help protect our eyes from those UV rays!
  • Hat/visor – it’s possible to be fashion forward while also taking into consideration your health! Hats or visors are a great way to shield away sunrays from your face.
