A healthy meal is important to everyone, for that is where everyone gets their energy to help them perform throughout the course of the day. There are many different opinions out there on what’s good and what’s bad for you, but there are a few things that are sure to be unhealthy. Here is a list of 6 myths we are sure you have heard of – and the truth about them!

  1. It’s okay to work out on an empty stomach.
    Functioning throughout the day (especially during vigorous exercise, is uncomfortable on an empty stomach. We have heard that it burns more fat, but you should always try to eat a light and healthy snack such as an apple before you do any exercise or do any physical activity
  2. Energy bars and drinks are viable substitutes for regular meals.
    Although they are okay every once in awhile, they don’t deliver all the antioxidants and nutrients you need. Fruits and vegetables are your best bet, as they are loaded in vitamins, minerals, water, and fiber. 
  3. It’s okay to skip breakfast.
    Skipping breakfast is never a good idea, as you’ve already gone a considerable amount of time without eating. Your body needs fuel as soon as possible, and without it, you will not be getting off to a great start in your day. Eating breakfast will give you an energy boost to help get through your morning.
  4. Low carb diets are healthy.
    Your body needs carbohydrates for your muscles and the storing of energy. Studies have shown that low carb diets usually don’t have any beneficial lasting results. You do not need to try to eat less carbs, but you can switch up your intake to include more whole-grains and healthier carb choices.
  5. You can eat whatever you want, if you exercise.
    Eating healthy but regularly exercising doesn’t give you an all access pass to eat anything you want.  You can easily be out eating your exercising, as weight loss refers to calories in vs calories out and what you are eating has a strong influence on your health. You can burn body fat, and you can build muscle by working out, but there is no way to turn body fat into muscle. In order to be healthy and get rid of problems areas, overall body fat must be reduced meaning, you should be eating healthy in combination with working out.
  6. Starving yourself is the key to losing weight.
    Although losing weight involves eating less calories, losing it too quickly is never safe.  What you should do, is aim for 1 – 2 pounds a week.  Always make sure that you are getting enough calories to keep your body operating smoothly.  

Changing how you eat is always a great step towards a healthy lifestyle and it will affect how your body performs.  The healthier you eat, the better you’ll feel throughout the day.  No matter how old you may be, healthy eating is something everyone should strive for.  Once you give it a chance, you’ll see in no time at all just how much it can change your life – for the better.
