Tips to Manage Stress

Whether you are a student in exam season or a young adult trying to figure out mortgage expenses, you are inevitably going to face a stressful situation at some point in your life. Beyond just an overwhelming feeling that takes over your mental health, stress can affect your physical body through skin conditions such as acne, eczema, or dandruff.

Interestingly enough, studies have shown that being around people who are stressed can actually transfer over to self — it’s contagious! While it may be possible to surround yourself with a mentally healthy group of friends and family, you and your close ones may still experience stressful situations which is why it is important to learn easy methods to deflect this stress.

Keep reading to learn a couple of tips that you can use to manage your stress:

Keep in touch with your Artistic Side

With creative outlets such as music and art, you can keep calm and carry on throughout your day. Listen to your favourite songs and make a playlist of songs that are peaceful and calming to you so that it drowns out the stress level. Alternatively, take an art night to yourself and do a painting workshop with friends — nothing to stressful if your trees look like broccoli because it’ll just be a fun time for you to enjoy!

Self Care Sessions

Take the time to self care throughout your work days so that you can keep up your physical body health too. For example, instead of taking a quick 5 minute shower, you can opt for a bubble bath to take the edge off. Enjoy being in warm and bubbly water and even bring in some champagne and candles to set the mood.

Additionally, you can take some time off to learn to cook a healthy meal. Not only will this expand your repertoire of meals you can make but eating it will help you feel more energized and ready to face any situation.

Take a Road Trip

Road trips don’t have to be a week long — it can just be one day out of the city with a friend and enjoying the fresh air while hiking a new trail or exploring a new island. The main focus of this is to get out of your stressful environment so that you can take a breather in an open area. This will allow your ideas to flow while your body relaxes and re-energizes.

Exercise

When your physical body is feeling great, it usually influences your mental state of mind to feel better as well. Take 3 days in a week to fit a one-hour workout so that you’re able to focus on yourself in those three hours throughout the week. Eventually, you’ll find yourself working out the stress and getting fit while you do so.

Be in a Stress-Free Environment

Surrounding yourself among friends and family that can support you positively is key. Whether it is a situation that you need to talk out with your close ones or you just need cheering up and laughter, they can be that shoulder to lean on, allowing you to mentally prepare yourself before jumping back into your work.

If stress is due to work or school, try to keep pictures of these loved ones on your desk so that you can be reminded of a warm and reliable support system when stressful situations arise.

Take the time to self-care both physically and mentally! When it comes to stressful situations, you don’t want it to affect you physically and mentally so ensure that you have your own couple of ways to destress!
