Top 10 Home Pain Relief Remedies

Muscle pain can be dreadful and unbearing at times. Many factors come into play when the soreness starts creeping up on your body; stress, excessive fatigue, problems with blood flow/circulation, dehydration, lack of minerals (i.e. potassium, magnesium, calcium) and of course, an injury.

We don’t always want to go to the walk-in clinic, especially when the muscle pain is not that serious, we want to refrain from waiting in those time consuming lines. So why not try at home pain relief remedies that will put you on the road of a safe, speedy recovery. These inexpensive treatments can be done right in the comfort of your own home.

  1.  Epsom Salts – these salts are miraculous when it comes to reducing any form of muscle aches and cramps. Add one cup of epsom salt to warm water – not hot – and soak the area in the water until it has cooled, this can be done three times a week. Depending on the severity of the soreness, two cups can also be used. It is important to note that this remedy is not recommended for those who have high blood pressure, diabetes or any other heart disease.

2. Apply Cold or Heat to Affected Areas – take a warm bath or shower, it will aid in relaxing your muscles due to the heat in the water which is a relaxing agent. Where there is bruising or inflammation, use an ice pack and apply it on the affected area for about 20 minutes. The ice pack should be wrapped in a piece of cloth or paper towel to avoid any harm. This will reduce the soreness and swelling on the injured area.

3. Magnesium Oil – similar to Epsom salts because they both contain magnesium, the oil contains magnesium chloride, in which works as a muscle relaxant. You can apply magnesium oil in a spray bottle and directly apply to where you’re feeling pain.

4. Consume Magnesium-type Foods – sometimes when the level of magnesium is low in the body, it could cause muscle discomfort. Start by digesting foods that are rich in magnesium. Here are a few to list; pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, black beans, cashews, almonds, sunflower seeds, cocoa powder, swiss chard and spinach.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar –  it is considered to be a great way to treat muscle soreness and pains. You can add one or two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water, and then drink it. Some prefer to take the substance as a shot without mixing it with water. Or there are also people who apply the apple cider vinegar directly on the affected part of the body.

6. Get Some Physical Activity – Although, it is quite tempting to just lay down and relax, it is encouraged to move around to reduce tension. Sitting around can lead to stiffness resulting in more pain. Move around, walk, stand up or stretch every now and then. This can also help you be active with increased age.

7. Massage the Area – massaging helps increase and improve blood circulation in the area, this will also help speed up the healing process. Use essential oils to ensure that you get the maximum benefits of the massaging process.

8. Stay Hydrated – when you exercise, your body loses a lot of water. Thus, it is important to replace all that fluid that you lost. Keep an eye out on any signs of dehydration and make sure you are consuming a healthy amount of water everyday. Your body will thank you for this.

9. Make Sure You Sleep Well – muscle soreness requires time to heal, could be days or could be weeks before you get fully recovered. Your body produces higher levels of hormones when you sleep, this is beneficial in aiding your muscles to rebuild and become as strong as they were before.

10. Drink Tart Cherry Juice – this type of juice contains very high levels of antioxidants, which will help reduce any form of muscle aches and pain. You can drink on its own, or even add it to your post smoothie workout. Tart cherries are known for preventing post-exercise muscle pain and could also reduce inflammation.
